Things you need to do When your Mobile Phone Get Water Damage

One of the most common reasons our customers bring their iPhones, and Samsung phones in for repair is water damage. We have all been there. You spilled a drink on your phone or fell into a puddle or just slipped from your hands into a sink (or toilet).

We've even had people bring their phones because they went swimming and forgot they were in their pocket. We've seen it all when it comes to water damage to your phone!

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR PHONE GETS WET

If your phone has taken an unintentional swim, do the following:

  1. Remove your phone from the water as quickly as possible.
  2. If your phone is still on, turn it off. If it's off, DO NOT try to turn it on.
  3. Hold your phone upright and gently tilt it from side to side. This will help drain the water inside from the bottom.
  4. Gently use a microfiber cloth to wipe any visible moisture from the exterior of your phone.

At this point, we recommend that you bring your phone to Repair Maniac so our repair experts can safely examine your phone. We have specialized tools designed to safely disassemble your phone without damaging it, and we can let you know if it can be repaired, rather than having to replace it entirely.

REPAIRING A WET PHONE AT HOME IS RISKY

The reason we recommend bringing a wet smartphone to repair maniac is that there are serious risks when trying to repair a wet electronic device at home.

Most people do not have the proper tools for delicate electronic repair in their homes and using the wrong tool can damage the delicate components of your phone.

What Not To Do After You Dropped Your Phone In Water

  • Do not turn on the phone, as we already mentioned. Electrical components do not play well with water when in operation.
  • Don't plug it in either! For the same reason.
  • Do not press any key. This can cause water to penetrate further into the phone. It is better to try to handle the phone as little as possible.
  • Do not shake or blow on the device. This could also push the water into deeper areas of the phone. Especially try to avoid air dryers, not only for the blowing part but also for the next point.
  • Do not apply heat to the phone. Remember that excessive heat can also damage your phone. You don't want to add more damage!

Don't move the phone too much. Same deal; you don't want the water to move inside the phone.
